One Ride to Convert: How the Harley S2 Del Mar Makes an Electric Believer

Trying one out is easy. Just head to your local Harley dealer and ask to test-ride an S2 Del Mar electric motorcycle. One ride, and your perspective on electric bikes will completely shiftyoull become a believer.

Instead of dealing with Harleys PR team, I went straight to Harley of Glendale and connected with Lucaa great guy. He took me on a ride through Griffith Park, and we even hit the freeway, with him on a LiveWire One and me on the new S2 Del Mar. Trust me, your eyes will widen, and your brain will be thoroughly impressed.

Yes, Harley-Davidson is now essentially in the electric motorcycle business. It began by testing the waters with Project LiveWire, established LiveWire as a sub-brand two years ago, and then spun it off as a separate company in 2022. Since then, the e-motorcycle maker has been winning over riders to electric power, one test ride at a time.

Equipped with a 10.5kWh nominal battery and weighing 436 pounds, the motorcycle offers a city range of 113 miles and a highway range of 70 miles. According to HarleyDavidson, its 84 horsepower and 194 lbft of torque deliver a 060 mph acceleration in just 3.0 secondsan assertion that certainly felt accurate during testing. Unlike the Energica, however, the bike does not support fast charging, meaning longer trips will require more time. That said, its lively performance makes every quick dash through the city a memorable experience.

Given its performance, the pricing is a bargain, starting at $15,499that's $7,300 less than the LiveWire One, which also weighs 162 pounds more. After riding both the S2 and a LiveWire One backtoback at The Bike Shed in LA, there was simply no comparison.

I can guarantee that one fullthrottle launch in an S2 Del Mars sport mode will convince you forever that acceleration is next to godliness. Very few vehicles deliver the same thrill as a highpower electric launch: the Pininfarina Battista, the Rimac Nevera, the Tesla Model S Plaidand thats about it. Having driven all of those, I can confidently say this bike belongs on the same list.

BMW refers to the new CE 02 not as an e-motorbike or an e-scooter, but rather as an "eParkourer." The company emphasizes this distinct identity.

It blends the fun, agile handling of an urban motorcycle with the simplicity and approachability of a scooter. While BMW positions it for skateboarders and city-focused youth, the price point may be a hurdle. When I mentioned the $7,599 starting cost to a young skateboarder, his response was clear: "Skateboarders dont have that kind of money."
